NEXT MEETING – THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2006

7:30 p.m. – AMERICAN LEGION POST 91

The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.

NO UNITY – NO VOICE – NO FISH!

Where has the year gone?  Our November 16th meeting will be out last meeting in 2006.  We have no December meeting but we will have a Christmas party which I will write about later in this newsletter.

I hope all our members have gotten in on the good fishing on the Choptank River.  Since the storm Ernesto came through Maryland, the Choptank River has been full of fish and bait. Right after the storm, the river was loaded with Rockfish, Bluefish and even a few keeper Trout; also a lot of Spot and Perch.  In the last couple of weeks, because of cooler water temperatures, the Bluefish and Spot are gone.  However, we still have a lot of Rockfish and Perch in the River.  I personally can’t report on other rivers because the Choptank has been so good, I haven’t fished anywhere else the last six weeks.  I don’t know how long the fish will stay before they move out of the River.  All I can say is get out there and enjoy some good year-end fishing.

CHRISTMAS PARTY

Our Christmas party will be on Saturday, December 16th at Portside Restaurant.  The restaurant is located at the corner of Maryland Avenue and Trenton Street before you go across the Cambridge Creek bridge.  There will be a social and cocktail hour from 6 to 7 p.m.  At 7 p.m. dinner will be served.  We have reserved the bottom floor and will have it to ourselves, including our own bar.  A very nice choice of menus is offered at various prices. At our November 16th meeting we will vote and select a menu, so be at this meeting to help select the menu.  Also be at our November 16th meeting to sign up for the Christmas dinner.  A deposit of $10.00 per person is required and the cutoff date will be Monday, December 11th.  So be at the meeting to sign up or call Jesse Maffuid at 410-228-1756 before December 11th.  This is a fun affair and it’s always great to see everybody at Christmas time and remember it’s one day after the end of Rockfish season.

MIKE AND CAROLYN GERMAN’S HOUSE PARTY

Also on December 16th, Mike and Carolyn German are having their annual house party at Laurie Lane in Woolford.  This has been a fun affair for the last few years.  Mike and Carolyn will have this social affair from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  All Dorchester MSSA members and guests are invited to attend this get together and talk about what happened in 2006 before our Christmas party at Portside Restaurant.  Call Mike or Carolyn at 410-228-6384 if you plan on attending their Christmas house party.

ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR ATTENDANCE GIVEWAY

Also at our November 16th meeting we will be presenting one of our lucky members with $100.00.  We appreciate the loyal members who attend our monthly meetings.  We have a $100.00 drawing at our May and November meetings.  You have to be present at our November meeting to win.

YEARLONG FISHING TOURNMENT

Also at our November meeting we will announce the winners of our yearlong fishing tournament.  As I write this newsletter, we have 12 different winning fish.  Check the official board at the Recreational Center on Poplar Street in Cambridge and see the fish that were caught.  Be at the meeting to see the winners or to see if you won.

MSSA ELECTIONS

I want to thank everyone who voted in this election. There were around 1,500 ballots returned to the MSSA office.  We all need to support our officers and help make the MSSA a better organization.  The winners are:  Bill Windley-President; Steve Shechtel-Vice President; Bill Shaver-Secretary and Pete Reid-Treasurer.

GUEST SPEAKER

Our speaker this month is Gordon Ries.  Gordon is a model boat builder and loyal Dorchester County MSSA member. Gordon will share some of his secrets in model boat building.  He has put together a video disc that shows how be builds these model boats. This should be very interesting.

We have a lot going on at our last meeting of the year so I’ll see you at the meeting or on the water.

Clint
