NEXT MEETING – THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2007

7:30 p.m. – AMERICAN LEGION POST 91

The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.

NO UNITY – NO VOICE – NO FISH!

Can you believe this is our last meeting in 2007?  Time must fly when you’re fishing.  Anyway, there is a lot going on this month and a lot to cover, so get your calendars out so you can mark down all the events and dates.

FISHING

Fishing this year was better than the last two or three years.  Large Rockfish showed up this spring both in size and numbers.  More, larger Bluefish were present and caught all around the Chesapeake Bay.  Plenty of Spot provided the best live-lining that I have seen in years.  More Trout, both Speckled and Yellow Fin were caught this year with some bigger fish mixed in.  Hardhead fishing was average. Even with the crazy regulations on Flounder, the fishing was a little better. White Perch fishing was about average.  Off-shore ocean fishing I can’t report on for I did very little this year. But from what I hear, it was an average year.

Don’t put your boats up yet. There is still a lot of good fishing left for this year.  Our Club’s fishing trips for Sea Bass, Tog and Bluefish will be starting, now that the water temperature is cooling down. Don’t miss the November meeting for updates and fishing reports.

ATTENDANCE WINNERS

At our November meeting we will be drawing two names to be the winners of our year-long appreciation for attending meetings. Every meeting you attend, you sign a ticket and you get ten tickets if you bring in a new member.  Those tickets go in a container and we draw winners at our May and November meetings - fifty dollars to each winner.  Next year will be the June and November meetings. You have to be in attendance at the November meeting to win.

YEARLONG TOURNAMENT

We will also announce the winners of our yearlong fishing tournament - twenty-five dollars to each winner.  As I write this letter, the leaders are:

                                                Rockfish                                Conrad Lesnewski                               43¼”

                                                Bluefish                                 Clint Waters                                       30”

                                                Founder                                 Jesse Maffuid                                     24”

                                                Trout                                      Clint Waters                                      20 5/8”

                                                Whit4 Perch                          Chuck Prahl                                         13”

CHRISTMAS PARADE

The  Cambridge-Dorchester County Christmas Parade will be held on December 1st. That is the first Saturday in December. We will again this year enter this parade. Danny Bell of Danny’s Marine and the Dorchester County MSSA fishing club will join forces again this year and enter this event.

CHRISTMAS DINNER PARTY

Our Christmas Party will be held on December 15th at Old Salty’s on Hoopers Island. I want to thank Jesse Maffuid and Phil Todd for putting this together. This year will be a buffet style serving.  Jesse informed me that we need to vote on the menu at our November meeting. The price should be from $15 to $18 plus tax and tip. The Dorchester Chapter will pick up the tip. Drunks are extra at the bar.

Christmas Party at Old Salty’s on Hoppers Island, December 15th at 6:00 p.m.  for drinks and conversation. Dinner served at 6:30.  As you know we have no meeting in December, so be at the November meeting to sign up for the Christmas Party.  Also sign up your significant other so they can see who you spend so much time away from home fishing with.  Contact Jesse 410-228-1756 or Phil 443-521-2255.

MIKE AND CAROLYN GERMAN’S PARTY

On the same day as our Christmas Dinner Party, December 15th, Mike and Carolyn German will have their open house from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a great get-together each year to talk about what went on this year fishing and who can tell the biggest lies.  It’s good to get together with your friends.  Let Mike and Carolyn know if you are planning to visit their home – 410-228-6384 or 443-521-4167.

HOUSE BILL HR3841

Wayne Gilcrest has submitted a bill to Congress that will put a prohibition on commercial harvesting of Atlantic Menhaden for reduction purposes in the coastal waters and the EEZ.  We need to support this bill every way we can. Charlie Hutchinson is putting together letters and information that we need to get to our elected officials. Be at the meeting to help support this bill.  It’s too important to our fishery and the health of the Chesapeake Bay.  If only this bill could get passed, what a blessing!

GUEST SPEAKER

Our speaker will be Gary Smith and he will talk about CRAIGCAT Boats. When I saw this boat for the first time while bringing my boat into the boat ramp at the hospital, I had never seen anything like it before in boat design. I had to get this boat presented at one of our meetings. You have to see this boat to believe it. So be at this meeting so Gary can present to you the CRAIGCAT Boat.

See you at the meeting or on the water.

Clint

P.S. Since there is no meeting in December, I want to wish everyone – Happy Thanksgiving – Merry Christmas – Happy New Year!
