The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.
NO UNITY – NO VOICE – NO FISH!
The year is half gone and fishing is fair to poor. Our Club has had two Sea Bass trips and one Flounder trip. These trips were fair to poor. I guess it is payback time because we sure had some great fishing trips last year.
Our meeting in May was one of our largest this year. Russ Kline won our rod and reel raffle that started at our flea market in February. He chose the trolling combo. Andy Clausser and Norm Bell collected $50.00 each on our $100.00 attendance give-away we do at our May and November meetings.
Our two guest speakers, Jim Price and H. Bruce Franklin, gave two good presentations on Rockfish and Menhaden with the importance to each other. Mr. Franklin’s book The Most Important Fish in the Sea is a complete history of Menhaden and is a very good book to read. Get all the information on our website: http:\\www.mssadorchester.com
FISHING TRIPS
Bob Watson, the person that has put our fishing trips together the last few years, is in failing health and can’t do this function any more. Bob has put together some great trips and will be missed. I want to thank Bob for his efforts and the love he has for our fishing Club. We need someone to step up to the plate and take over this function for these fishing trips are a very important part of our fishing Club. If you are interested in putting our fishing trips together, please contact me or be at our meeting to let me know. Again, thank you Bob for all the great fishing trips.
MSSADORCHESTER.COM
Your website needs some new pictures. So if you have been doing any fishing or crabbing, please feel free to put them on our website. Contact me or send your material to Curt Brandt at webmaster@mssadorchester.com. Curt has put a lot of time and effort to make our website one of the best in the MSSA. Check out the website and, if you have any suggestions to make it better, please be comfortable in doing so.
KIDS’ FISHING PROGRAMS
Since we have no kids’ fishing program of our own, we however get involved with other organizations in helping out with their programs. I want to thank our members who volunteered their time to help with these kids’ programs. Jim Kubista helped out Blackwater Refuge with their program on June 2nd. Kevin Turner, John Bryde, Bob Geisler and Clint Waters helped out CCA with their kids’ program on the Talbot side of the Choptank River fishing pier on June 9th. It’s quite rewarding to help kids to learn and enjoy fishing. Thanks to all the volunteers. We need to get our own kids’ program organized. I need someone to step forward to get a kids’ program organized.
GUEST SPEAKER
Our speaker this month is Chris Dollar, the editor of Fishermen’s Magazine. Chris will be able to tell us where the fishing is best in our area and neighboring states. Chris specializes in light tackle fishing and will give us pointers in fishing from small boats. Chris also will talk on Kayak fishing.
See you at the meeting or on the water.
