The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.
NO UNITY – NO VOICE – NO FISH! Happy New Year! The fishing year of 2007 has begun. Since our last meeting in November, there has been a lot happening in our Chapter. On December 16th, we had our Chapter’s Christmas Party at Portside Restaurant. Thanks to Jesse Maffuid for organizing the event. See pictures on our website (mssa.dorchester.com). Also again this year, Mike and Carolyn German had a fantastic house party before the Christmas dinner. Loved that crab dip! Thanks Mike and Carolyn. Our Chapter members have put together two fishing trips since our November meeting. First was on November 29th out of Ocean City for Sea Bass. Fourteen members went out 36 miles and fished in 150 feet of water and everyone either limited out or pretty close to the limit. There were plenty of 30 inch plus Bluefish mixed in along with the Sharks. Chuck Prahl won the largest fish contest with a 24-inch monster Sea Bass. A trip of a lifetime (see pictures on our website). The second trip was December 29th out of Lewes, Delaware for Tog. Six members fished about 10 miles out of Lewes Harbor in 40 feet of water on a wreck. Everyone came home with at least five fish per person. The amazing thing about these two trips was the weather. Both days the ocean and Delaware Bay were completely calm.
My wish for 2007 is that more of our members would get involved in our Chapter’s activities. We try to put together informative meetings, great fishing trips all year long, our yearlong fishing tournament was a success, our Club tournament in October along with the crab feast were great and our Christmas Party. If you haven’t been involved, you’re missing a lot of fun and friendship.
FLEA MARKET
Our flea market is scheduled for Saturday, February 17th at the American Legion in Cambridge. I’ll be spending some time on this event at our meeting. We need every member’s support. Not only attending the flea market, but donating items we can sell at the Club’s table. Everyone has items they haven’t used. If you haven’t used it in a year, you’re not likely to use it. So donate it. We will again this year have the show special for people signing up for membership. The MSSA has put together a package for people who renew or new members who sign up for membership, a chance of winning one of two charter fishing trips on the Chesapeake Bay. So if your membership is up for renewal or you know someone who wants to be a member, the flea market is the place to do it.
ROD AND REEL COMBO RAFFLE
We will start our raffle at our January 18th meeting. All I’m asking is that every member set aside $5.00 to purchase six chances for $5.00 to not only have a change to win your choice of a fishing combo but support the activities of your Chapter. Charlie Hutchinson has put together our budget for 2007. There is a deficit of roughly $3000.00. There are only two planned events in which to make up the shortage, our flea market and the rod and reel raffle. We need your support in both. In your February newsletter, you will receive six chances for $5.00 on the fishing combo raffle. Please return the tickets with your $5.00. With your help we can make up the shortage.
MSSA CONVENTION
The MSSA convention will again this year be in Ocean City at the Princess Royale on February 2, 3 and 4, 2007. If you want to attend, call the MSSA office (410-255-5535) and check your “Tidelines” magazine for details. I’ll be taking members down on Saturday, February 3rd for the MSSA meeting. If you want to tag along, let me know. There is plenty of food and drink.
GUEST SPEAKER
Our guest speaker will be representatives from Mid-Shore Electronics. Mid-Shore is located in Cambridge on Cambridge Creek on Trenton Street. Mid-Shore is known around the state as a top-of-the-line seller and installer of electronics and electrical wiring for your boats. Electronics for your boat change every year and you need to know from experts what is best for your style of fishing. Mid-Shore will inform us on what is new and what is best for you. If you have electrical problems or are interested in purchasing new electronics for your boat or just want to see what is happening with equipment that is on the market, this is a must meeting to attend.
See you at the meeting or on the water.
