                       NEXT MEETING - THURSDAY, June 15th, 2006

                           7:30 p.m. - AMERICAN LEGION POST 91

The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.

NO UNITY - NO VOICE - NO FISH!

Our May 18th monthly meeting was the largest attended meeting we have had since I became President of the Dorchester County Chapter 11. We had 65 people in attendance and four new members signed up at the meeting. That gives us around 30 new members since the first of this year. At our May 18th meeting, we had a winner of the rod and reel fishing combo. The winner was Alan Wright and he chose the trolling combo. Also at that meeting, we had our $100 attendance drawing. For appreciation of our members attending monthly meetings, we give away $100 at our May and November meetings. Our May meeting winner was Jesse Maffuid.

                                    FISHING TRIPS
Our Fishing Club has already started our fishing trips. We have two Seabass and one Flounder trip already taken so far this year. The two Black Seabass trips were May 16th and 24th out of Ocean City on the OC Princess. We had around 15 members on each trip. On the May 16th trip, everyone limited out with 25 Seabass per person. This trip had larger Seabass than the second trip on the 24th. Bob Watson, who puts these trips together caught the largest Seabass – a 5.4 pound whopper plus he also caught a 6.5 pound Bluefish. On the May 24th trip, a few people caught their limits but most people had 20 fish per person. There is no better eating than Black Seabass, so there must have been some good tasting meals from those two trips. The May 30th Flounder trip out of Bowers Beach, Delaware was a last minute trip put together by Bob Watson. We had only 10 members take this trip. Fishing was slow on this trip, but a new record was set. The air temperature hit a high of 94 degrees which set a record for that date. Flounder have to be 17 inches in Delaware waters, so only four keepers were caught. I (Clint) had the largest Flounder that measured 22½ inches and weighed 4.1 pounds. Anyway, we now have three Club fishing trips under our belts with many more to follow. If you want to get involved, you must attend our meetings or check our website: mssadorchester.com

                                MSSA SPRING TOURNAMENT
The MSSA Spring Tournament was a complete success. Congratulations to all the winners. Our Dorchester County member, Bob Shenton (swamprat) came in third place. Congratulations Bob on your third place finish.

                                     REEFBALL PROJECT
Our reefball project will get started now that the Spring Rockfish trophy season is complete. We have 82 reefballs made from last year ready to go on a reef site. I still have not gotten a report on the condition of our first reef site where 80 reefballs were placed. If you are interested in getting involved with the reefball project, contact me (Clint) for I appreciate all the help I can get.

                                   FISHING PARTNERSHIP
Our Chapter is rapidly growing with new members. If you are a new member and new to the area, we have a fishing partnership program that puts members together to go fishing. Don’t be bashful, if you don’t know the area about fishing. Get involved and attend meetings and learn from the experts where the fish are biting. Remember 90% of the fish are caught by 10% of the good fishermen.

                                 MSSADORCHESTER.COM
Our website is a huge success thanks to Curt Brandt. You can buy, sell and advertise on our website and it not cost you a dime. It’s your site, so use it for all kinds of information. If you aren’t receiving your newsletter by email and would like to do so, email your address to webmaster@mssadorchester.com and that way we will have the correct spelling and numbers of your email. The monthly newsletter will still be put on our website every month. We need everyone’s help to save on mailing cost of the newsletter. For those who want to still receive the newsletter by mail you may do so.

                                     GUEST SPEAKER
Our speaker for June is Jim Uphoff from DNR. Jim is an old friend and frequent speaker to our Club. Jim is the weakfish expert along with other fisheries for DNR. Jim will try to inform us on what is happening with the fishery in our area. This is a must meeting to attend. Don’t’ miss it.

See you at the meeting or on the water.
Clint
