                          NEXT MEETING - THURSDAY, May 18th, 2006

                               7:30 p.m. - AMERICAN LEGION POST 91

The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.

NO UNITY - NO VOICE - NO FISH!

Spring is here and so are the big Rockfish.  I hope everyone of our Chapter has had an opportunity to catch a few of these big, beautiful fish. There’s no better scene than a large fishing rod bent towards the water with the reel clicker screaming from the force of line being taken from it with the loud cry of the crew hollering “FISH ON.”

There are a lot of smaller Rockfish in the river shallows around the Bay which gives promise to when we can catch 18 inch fish. There are also quite a few Hardhead showing up along with White Perch in some of the main rivers. There seems to be quite a lot of bait in certain parts of our rivers and Bay.  All this, I hope, will provide us with a good fishing year.  Only time will tell. Did I also mention a few large Flounder have already been caught in our area. Be at the meeting to get all the fishing reports.

FISHING COMBO RAFFLE

At our May 18th meeting, we will be pulling a ticket to see who won the fishing rod and reel combo of their choice.  If you haven’t bought any tickets or turned your tickets in, you will not win the raffle.  So be sure to turn your tickets in or be at the meeting to purchase more tickets, for you have to play to win.  This raffle also helps to support your Fishing Club with newsletters, fishing trips, reef ball projects, kids’ fishing programs, Menhaden replenishment, cleaner water, etc.  So please support this raffle and your Fishing Club by purchasing a few tickets.  Someone is going to win a fishing rod and reel combo this month.

$100.00 ATTENDANCE DRAWING

Also at this months’ meeting we will be drawing a ticket with the name on it for the $100.00 that is given away twice a year for attending our monthly meetings. At each meeting you attend you get to put your name on a ticket or 10 tickets if you bring in a new member. So the more meetings you attend, the better your chances to win.  YOU MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE AT THE MAY 18TH MEETING TO WIN THE $100.00.

FISHING TRIPS

Our 1st Club fishing trip will be for Sea Bass. Tuesday, May 16th, we are to meet at 5:30 a.m. in the WalMart parking lot in Cambridge.  Fourteen people signed up at our April meeting.  If you did not sign up, you still can go on this fishing trip for there is plenty of room. The cost is $55.00 per person and you can rent a rod at extra cost or you can bring your own.  This is always a fun trip and there is no better eating than a Sea Bass.  Look on our website - http://www.MSSADORCHESTER.COM for all the fishing trips’ information. The Sea Bass trip is on the Ocean Princess out of Ocean City.

Our next Club fishing trip is for Flounder out of Bowers Beach, Delaware on Tuesday, June 20th.  Be at our May 18th meeting for more details.  We will be scheduling a lot more trips this year and as a member you need to get involved.  The experience of fishing new places is always exciting.  Bob Watson does a great job of planning trips for fishing different places. You must get involved to enjoy these fishing trips. Be at our meetings for more details.

GUEST SPEAKER

Our scheduled speaker for this month is Chuck Prahl.  Chuck is the best light tackle shoreline fisherman I know. Chuck also writes stories for many fishing magazines.  He just completed one for “Fishermen’s Magazine” on how to fish bridge pilings for fish.  That was a great article and Chuck will go into better detail on bridge piling fishing and shoreline fishing.

See you at the meeting or on the water.

Clint

P.S.  Also I will report on the MSSA Spring Tournament.  One of our loyal members, Bob Shenton (Swamprat) came in third place.  Congratulations Bob!.  Bob checked in a 44 5/8 inch Rockfish the last day of the Tournament.
